Pull the Bull: A vison
for Santa Cruz/Northern California
We can be the ring in the nose of the bull. The Bull (the rest of the US/western world)
may be very strong, and very obstinate, and it’s clearly pointed
in the wrong direction now, but if we keep pulling it will eventually
turn and go our way!
So, should Northern California
cede/split from Southern California? After all, right now Californians are severely
under-represented in the US Senate, given our huge population, so
splitting the state would be a boon for democratic representation. Also,
they got the recall to happen and elected Arnie,
but we didn’t, so maybe now is a good time to have separate governors.
Of course, I don’t know if those SoCal
folks will go along with it. To
them, it will just mean it’s harder to negotiate access to water. But they could keep electing movie stars, and
we could start moving in a new and better direction without having
to drag them along all the time. Maybe, given the political and
economic differences, we could even split into Costal and Inland
California, instead of the oft-repeated North/South split. Or there
could be four Californias. Anyway, San Francisco and Santa Cruz
should not have to put up with all the rest of that nonsense --
we could easily have Peter
Camejo for governor and Medea
Benjamin as a US Senator. A SW Cal could even have Arianna
for Gov, once they get over their Arnie silliness. I wonder
how long the fission would take?
