I wrote this song on September 7, 2004. It was the day the one thousandth American death in Iraq was announced. The chorus quickly popped into my mind, and all day long lyrics kept coming into my head. Mostly, I used Bush and the neocons' own words and terms to express my own feelings about this tragic event.

A Lie For A Lie

(written 9/7/04, the day the 1,000th American died in the Iraq war)

Chorus:

a Lie for a Lie

and a Truth for a Truth

A thousand have died

Most still in their youth

a Thousand have died

and when we ask why

a Lie is a Lie

and the Truth’s still the Truth

No Weapons, No Programs

or Bin Laden connections

justify this bloody senseless intervention

greater threats gathering all over the world

Our leaders are lying, the flag is unfurled

A Holy crusade on the unholy masses

“Let God sort them out” brayed the NeoCon Asses

They made Special Plans for their Vanity War

but No plan for peace, they’re goin’ to hell, that’s for sure

(chorus)

Catastrophic success due to miscalculation

said the leader who misled an entire nation

No Flowers, no candy for this liberation

just anger, and sorrow, and fear

No coffins, no funerals, no body parts showing

If you’re watching Fox News there’s no way of knowing

‘til one day you open the funny papers

or watch a film by a disingenuous filmaker

(chorus)

In prayer or in silence

remember the fallen

for doing their duty

for heeding their calling

and remember when you’re in the voting booth,

a lie is a lie and the truth is the truth
